“We are totally committed in our pursuit of excellence for crafting world class sparkling wine from Tasmania. These wines express the purity of their origin, our distinctive winemaking and extensive maturation. This gives Arras a uniqueness which is our style, an essence of Tasmania.”
Where it began
Ed Carr is Australia’s most decorated sparkling winemaker.
His unmatched expertise in the Australian sparkling wine scene has resulted in the highest accolades at both domestic and international wine competitions.
In 2015 alone, House of Arras was awarded Best Sparkling Wine at the prestigious International Wine and Spirits Competition in London with our 2002 House of Arras EJ Carr Late Disgorged beating competition from around the world, while our 2006 House of Arras Blancs de Blancs was named Champion Wine at the National Wine Show. This is the first time a sparkling wine has won this award.
The 2002 House of Arras EJ Carr Late Disgorged was also recognised with the Regional Trophy at the Decanter World Wine Awards and Decanter Asia Wine Awards, while A by Arras won Best Australian NV Blend at the Champagne and Sparkling Wine World Championships. House of Arras collected 14 trophies and 21 gold medals across both domestic and international wine competitions in what was a remarkable 2015 for Australia’s premier sparkling wine label.
For Ed, the House of Arras represents the realisation of a 20 year vision to craft sophisticated Australian sparkling wine from pristine Tasmanian fruit. He has established a recognisable house style which allows the quality of the fruit to shine through the depth of character that comes with ageing on lees.
The embodiment of this approach comes in the form of the recently released 1998 Arras 20th Anniversary E.J. Carr Late Disgorged. This limited release of only 300 bottles of the most exclusive sparkling wine ever produced in Australia is a fitting tribute to House of Arras – the benchmark for New World sparkling wine and an inspiration to winemakers with the loftiest of ambitions.
Ed’s contribution to sparkling winemaking, not just for our business, but to the Australian wine industry as a whole has been recognised by prestige industry publication Australian Gourmet Traveller Wine, which recognised Ed as its Winemaker of the Year in 2011, and also by the Australian Society of Viticulture and Oenology which nominated Ed as its Winemaker of the Year for 2015 in recognition of his contribution to Australian sparkling wine.
