Bay of Fires’ Eddystone Point 2016 Pinot Noir has taken home the ‘best export wine’ trophy at the latest Tasmanian Wine Show, marking a great start to the year for chief winemaker Penny Jones and her team.

Speaking on behalf of the Tasmanian State Government, State Growth Minister Steve Gutwein said the trophy captured our efforts to boost the profile of Tasmanian wines in one of our most important overseas markets. “Accolade Wines has been recognised for the quality of its Eddystone Point label, made by the Bay of Fires team, and for its success in opening up markets in the United Kingdom.”

Penny adds, “we are thrilled to be so prominently associated with Tasmania’s growing reputation as an exporter of premium wines. Our viticultural team works with fruit grown across all of the isle’s subregions to create products of great character, complexity and flavour that are rightly recognised for their quality.”

Eddystone Point also collected a trophy for its 2016 Riesling, while House of Arras, which was last year named one of Australia’s top sparkling producers by winning ‘best in class’ trophies at every capital city wine show, also secured trophies for ‘Best Non-Vintage Sparkling’ and ‘Best Late Disgorged Older Vintage Sparkling.’

Ed Carr, Chief Winemaker at House of Arras, said the awards showed yet again how well Tasmanian products are competing with the world’s best in the sparkling category. “Our faith in the local land, conditions and climate has well and truly paid off, proving Tasmania as a region capable of growing premium winemaking fruit on a consistent basis.”

Along with the trophies, a further combined total of 6 gold, 5 silver and 5 bronze awards for the two wineries led to the crowning of Accolade Wines as ‘most successful show exhibitor.’
